Focusshh Privacy Policy
Effective date: 31 October 2026
Last updated: 31 October 2026
This policy explains what information Focusshh collects, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Focusshh app and to this website, wherever you live. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@focusshh.com.
1. Summary
- Focusshh is for adults aged 18 and over.
- We keep the minimum needed to give you an account, your tasks, and rooms with friends.
- We don't sell your information, don't show ads, and don't use analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools.
- We don't track your sleep and don't collect health data.
- In public rooms other people see a room nickname, never your real name.
- You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
2. Who we are
Focusshh ("we", "us") is made and run by an independent developer based in Sri Lanka, who decides how and why your information is used. This makes them the "data controller" (or "data fiduciary" or "business", depending on the law where you live). Their name and address, and our representatives in the EU and UK, are in Contact us.
3. Information we collect
Information you give us or create in the app
- Account details. If you sign in with Google: your name, email address, profile photo link and a user ID, which Google gives us with your permission. If you continue as a guest: a user ID only.
- Your tasks and goals. Tasks you type and their lengths, whether they are done, your weekly goal, your focus minutes and streak, a daily reminder time and an exam date, if you add them.
- Rooms. Which rooms you are in, the names of private rooms you create, and invites you send or accept.
- Public activity lines. When you do something in a public room (for example light a candle), a line such as "Nova at The Observatory lit a candle" appears in a feed other users see. It uses a room nickname, never your name, and never anything you typed. Nothing from private rooms goes there.
- Your messages to us. If you email us, your email address and what you write.
Information kept only on your phone
Room choices, sound mixes, your agreement to our terms, and a copy of your reminder time are stored only on your phone and are not sent to us. "Put the day down" notes in the Lullaby Loft never leave your phone and are forgotten when you close them.
Information collected automatically
When the app connects to our servers, our service provider Google processes technical information needed to run the connection safely, such as your IP address and the time of the request. We do not use it to identify or profile you.
4. Information we don't collect
We do not collect your precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, files, microphone or camera, health, fitness or sleep data, payment details, browsing history, or advertising or device ID. The app has no ads, analytics, crash-reporting tools, cookies, tracking pixels or marketing SDKs, and we don't send you marketing emails.
5. How we use your information
- To create and run your account and keep your data in sync across sessions.
- To show your tasks, goals, streak and focus time, and to send the daily reminder you set.
- To run rooms with friends and the public activity feed.
- To keep Focusshh safe and working: preventing misuse, fixing problems and protecting our users.
- To reply when you contact us, and to tell you about important changes to the app or this policy.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling. Focusshh does not use artificial intelligence (AI) to process your information, and we make no decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
6. Legal bases
Where the law asks us to have a legal basis (for example in the UK, the EU and Sri Lanka), we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the app and the features you asked for (your account, tasks, rooms and reminders).
- Legitimate interests: to keep Focusshh secure, prevent misuse and improve the service, in ways you would reasonably expect and that don't override your rights.
- Consent: for notifications. You give it by allowing notifications when the app asks, and you can withdraw it at any time in your phone's settings. Withdrawing doesn't affect anything done before.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
7. Who can see your information
- Your profile, email address and tasks: only you.
- A private room: its members. The person who hosts it can see who has joined.
- Public activity lines: anyone signed in to Focusshh.
8. Service providers and sharing
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We only share it:
- With service providers who process it for us under contract and only on our instructions: Google (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, which store your account and app data, and Google Sign-In), and the company that hosts this website. Where the GDPR applies, they are bound by data processing terms that meet Article 28 of the GDPR. You can read Google's Privacy Policy and how Firebase handles data.
- When the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or us.
- If Focusshh changes hands, for example in a merger or sale. This policy would continue to protect your information, and we would tell you before it became subject to a different policy.
9. Where your information is stored
Your account and app data are stored with Google Firebase in the United States. We may also access it from Sri Lanka, where we are based. This means your information may be processed outside the country where you live, in countries whose data protection laws may differ from yours.
When information is transferred out of the UK, the EU or Sri Lanka, we rely on recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum, which are part of Google's data processing terms, or on an adequacy decision such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where it applies. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.
10. How long we keep it
- Your account and app data: for as long as you have an account.
- After you delete your account: it is deleted straight away and can't be recovered. Copies in our service provider's backups are overwritten shortly after that.
- Public activity lines: they carry only a room nickname and are not linked to your account.
- Emails you send us: for as long as needed to help you, and no longer than two years, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
11. Deleting your account
In the app, go to Profile → Delete my data. This deletes your profile, tasks, room memberships, the private rooms you host (they close for their members too), your invites, your sign-in account and everything the app saved on your phone. It all happens straight away and can't be undone.
You can also ask at focusshh.com/delete-account or by emailing privacy@focusshh.com. Uninstalling the app stops it collecting anything new, but doesn't delete your account: please delete it in the app first, or ask us.
12. Security
Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to your data is limited by security rules, so only you, and the people you choose to share a room with, can see it. No system is perfectly secure. If a personal data breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell the relevant data protection authority within 72 hours of finding out, where the law requires it. If the risk to you is high, we will also tell you without undue delay: what happened, what information was affected, and what we are doing about it.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what information we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your information;
- get your information in a portable format;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use your information;
- withdraw consent you have given, at any time;
- complain to a data protection authority.
You can do most of this in the app: your profile and tasks are there to view and change, and you can delete everything from Profile. For anything else, email privacy@focusshh.com. We may need to confirm it's you, usually by replying from the email address you sign in with. We will answer within one month. If a request is complex, we may need up to two more months, and we will tell you why. Where your local law sets a shorter time, we follow it. Using your rights is free, and we will never treat you differently for using them.
14. Contact us
For any question, request or complaint about your privacy, email privacy@focusshh.com. This is the quickest way to reach us.
- Data controller:
- Our representative in the European Union:
- Our representative in the United Kingdom:
If you live in the EU or UK, you can contact our representative there instead of us, about anything to do with your data.
15. Extra information for your country or region
United Kingdom and European Union
The UK GDPR and the EU General Data Protection Regulation give you all the rights in section 13. Our legal bases are in section 6, and our representatives in the UK and EU are in Contact us. You can complain to the data protection authority where you live or work, or where you think a problem happened. You can find EU authorities at edpb.europa.eu. In the UK, it is the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd be grateful for the chance to help first, so please contact us.
Sri Lanka
Under the Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, you can ask to access your personal data, withdraw your consent, have your data corrected or completed, have it erased, and ask for a review of any decision made only by automated means (we make none). If we refuse a request, we will explain why. If you are not satisfied, you can appeal to the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
United States
If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas or Oregon), you can ask to know, access, correct and delete your personal information, and to get a copy of it. In the last 12 months we have collected identifiers (name, email address, user ID), and content you create in the app, as described in section 3, for the purposes in section 5. We do not sell or "share" personal information (as those words are defined in California law), and we do not use sensitive personal information. Since we don't sell or share it, there is nothing to opt out of; we also honour Global Privacy Control signals. You can use an authorised agent to make a request for you. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and if your appeal is refused, you can contact your state's Attorney General.
Other countries
If you live elsewhere, for example in Canada, Australia, India, Brazil, Japan or South Africa, you have the rights your local law gives you, which generally include access, correction and deletion. Email us and we will help. In India, you can also contact us with any grievance about how your data is handled, and nominate someone to use your rights if you die or become unable to.
16. Children
Focusshh is only for adults aged 18 and over, and asks you to confirm your age before you sign in. It is not designed for or marketed to children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we will delete it and its information straight away. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used Focusshh, please email privacy@focusshh.com.
17. Permissions and notifications
The app asks for notifications only for your daily reminder and while the Lullaby Loft plays sound with the screen off. Everything still works if you say no, and you can change this at any time in Android settings. The app does not ask for your location, microphone, camera, contacts or files.
18. This website
focusshh.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers, and loads nothing from other companies, so there is no cookie banner. The fonts, pictures and sounds come from our own server. "Try a room" runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing to us. Like most websites, our web host keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page asked for) to keep the site secure and working.
19. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For important changes, we will tell you in the app, and ask for your consent again if the law requires it. Earlier versions are available on request.
